Principal's Message

Dear Parents and May River Community,

May River High School is now officially three years young.  We stepped off with “Tradition Starts Today,” as our mantra.  In three short years, we have accomplished many great things together.  Our traditions are strong, and our challenge is to maintain this momentum into our fourth year.  I hope you will encourage your students not only to engage in the academic opportunities at May River High School, but to stretch their comfort zone and engage in the vast opportunities with extra-curricular offerings.

High school years are typically a time when students hope not to see parents at school; however, I hope you will resist the temptation to give in to this.  We have several formal opportunities for parents to impact our community, student success, and generally be involved.  The May River School Improvement Council meets monthly and provides a platform for discussion of school issues and growth targets as a true school community.  It brings all stake holders to the table.  The PTO provides fundraising and volunteer support for areas impacting our students and our staff.  Booster Clubs support specific programming areas (athletics, band or chorus) and provide student opportunities that otherwise can’t exist.  We have occasional events where we need volunteers to donate time.  I communicate weekly with email updates that will provide details for these opportunities and insight to events impacting our students.

The incredible growth in our community is a testament to our solid reputation and educational opportunities for our students, yet it creates our greatest challenge, maintaining a positive school culture amidst a safe environment. This growth also creates a need for a community-wide eye for safety.  We address these challenges collectively and need your active participation to ensure that the opportunities afforded our students prepare them for a global challenge.

Welcome to May River High School, and I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Todd Bornscheuer, Principal
